A piece of Turkey

In Culture, Europe, Travel, Turkey on February 12, 2017 at 10:15 pm

With our daughter M already two years old, I decided it was time to take out my bucket list and be a little more ambitious in our travels. So far we had travelled to and in India(mostly with family), within France and to Portugal with her and it had taught us that not only was it possible to travel with our darling chipmunk but that it does us all a whole lot of good!

So we decided to push the bar a little higher. Read the rest of this entry »

A day at Juodkranté

In Baltic states, Europe, Photography, Places, Travel on September 29, 2013 at 7:28 pm

When we decided to take a trip to the Baltic states, we decided on a road trip covering all the capitals, starting from Tallinn in Estonia to Riga in Latvia to Vilnius in Lithuania. We had no plans initially of taking a detour to visit a place we had not heard of till then….the Curonian Spit, a 98km long sand dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea, a UNESCO heritage site shared by Russia in the south and Lithuania in the north. Whether it is samosas in Delhi, currywrust in Berlin, crêpes in Paris, hotdogs in New York, waffles in Brussels or Phở in Hanoi, street food is indispensable for a traveller, especially when you have to keep a close watch on your budget. Meant primarily for local inhabitants, travellers get a taste of food that is not tailored to their taste, often in the company of locals only too willing to chat in a much more convivial setting than one would get in a restaurant. To the edge of the world!

In India, Travel on December 23, 2012 at 11:49 am

Maybe because it has been raining for weeks now and the sun seems to have disappeared completely from our lives, maybe because the autumnal colours are long gone and winter is finally setting in and spreading its greyness around or maybe just because those holidays had been amazing, but I have been feeling nostalgic about the Andamans for some time now. Moorish Andalusia!

In Europe, Photography, Places, Spain, Travel on June 3, 2012 at 7:48 pm

My one and only exposure to Moorish architecture has been in the south of Spain and to say I was awed would be an understatement. This post follows the architectural marvels we saw during our trip from Seville in the west, moving east to Cordoba  and finally to Granada in the east. Read the rest of this entry »

We took a friend of ours visiting Europe for the first time to a restaurant specialised in Tapas. Her reaction?

How wonderful to be able to share your food instead of having to order your own stuff.”

She looked so blissful at that moment that we were sure, we could have served her absolutely anything and it would not have mattered as long as it was Tapas style. Read the rest of this entry »

The road to Leh : Part 2

In Culture, India, Photography, Places, Travel on April 29, 2012 at 12:20 pm

Lamayuru monastry. Our first halt since Kargil and we were itching to do more than just drive through the mountains. There had been nothing much to visit since Srinagar so we were really looking forward to some sight-seeing!

(This post follows my earlier post The road to Leh: Part 1 which covered our journey starting from Srinagar in Kashmir to Kargil and a bit beyond. ) Read the rest of this entry »

The road to Leh : Part 1

In India, Photography, Places, Travel on April 22, 2012 at 11:36 am

It had been my dream to go to Ladakh. Correction, it had been my dream to go to Ladakh by road. It wasn’t getting to Leh or any of the touristy destinations that was to me the most enticing part of the journey. I had heard that the landscape on the road to Ladakh was breathtaking and I wanted to see it for myself. Read the rest of this entry »
